Road to Gollum - Introduction

Saturday, Nov 1, 2008

Wow! Is it November 1st already?

The time just seemed to fly by. I think I am happy to stay submerged in deep fried ignorant bliss. But no! A promise is a promise and I have publicly (and moronic-ly) stated that I will begin my Road to Gollum today.

In retrospect, deciding to start a new regime of diet and exercise the day after my kids bring 45 tonnes of halloween candy into the house was, perhaps, not my best decision.

As this is my first post I should begin by confessing that I am no longer "morbidly obese" as the intro video states. I have graduated to a measly "obese". Not as dramatic but I've still got a long way to go.

So I guess I should start my walk down this road with full-ish disclosure. All joking aside, I am a healthy eater. I'm not too big on sweets or fried foods. I eat my vegetables and I don't like eating too much. So my diet isn't that bad. (I will miss separating out my children's "suspicious" Halloween candy, though.)

My biggest problem is taking time out to exercise. My goal is to lose 30 pounds but I don't really have a time-frame in mind. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. My thought is that I will stay on my Road to Gollum until I hit my goal. The idea of this blog is to explore the things that keep us on the path to our goal, no matter how long it takes.

During my "walk" I will be adding weekly posts to let you know how I am doing and share some of the things that keep me going. As this process involves changing habits both mentally and physically, I will be adding tips to help with body (physical), mind (logical), and spirit (emotional). I will also be putting up a video at least once a month that, I hope, will help keep us all motivated. Remember, I am no expert in this field so if you have any advice, encouragement, or even if you think I am a complete knob then feel free to let me know (keep it g-rated, folks). We don't have an automatic comment section yet but I will post your comments, nonetheless. You can go to our contact page and select "Road to Gollum" in the subject drop down.

Okay, here I go. My metaphorical first step is now being planted. Ow! I think I've already pulled a muscle.
